5-Year-Old’s Wish Comes True Before Her Open Heart Surgery

No child deserves to go through living with a terminal illness. But even when they have it, many of these kids still live to fulfill their life’s wishes. Sophia Chiappalone is only five-years-old but the girl has kept her hopes and dreams alive. Even when she has had a severe heart defect since birth, that didn’t stop her. For her to prolong her hopes though, she’s required to have two open heart surgeries done on her already.

Sophia was to undergo another one of these open heart surgeries back on November of 2017. Open heart surgeries need a lot of preparation. Even when patients survive the operation, they can still get complications and feel a lot of pain.

The success rate of open heart surgeries are at the nineties percentage. Even so, patients might feel that they might not come out alive from such a risky procedure.

Before the Sophie was to go through her third surgery, she asked her mom, Kristy Somerset-Chiappalone, for one wish. Sophia asked if she would get married before the next surgery. Most moms would not allow for this kind of thing to happen to their kid.

Kristy followed through with the idea for Sophia to marry her “boyfriend” – her 6-year-old best friend, Hunter Laferriere. Kristy and Hunter’s mom, then, started talking about it.

Both decided to hold a mock photoshoot of the kids with the help of their best friend Marisa Balletti-Lavoie, who owns Sassy Mouth Photography.   She took the photos of Sophia and Hunter showcasing innocent and loving moments.

Later, the photos got posted to the Facebook page, Love Matters, which received 100,000 reactions and made over 21,000 shares. Sophia not only had a dream come true but touched the hearts of many with her story of love.
