Mikayla Miller, a photographer for Copper + Pine, held a free photo session giveaway. A winner would be chosen out of all the entrants based on their written submission about why they want a photo shoot.

A bride-to-be named Brittany won the giveaway, but she didn’t want a photo shoot of her with her groom. Instead, Brittany had written in her submission letter to Mikayla about her grandmother, Ellen.
Ellen was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in December of last year, explains Brittany. The cancer was eating at her bones, which caused Ellen great pain and made her bones frail and easily fractured.
Brittany’s submission tugged at Mikayla’s heartstrings, and she knew immediately that Brittany’s wish for a photo session with her grandma had to be granted. Mikayla says that all the entrants had beautiful reasons for wanting a photo session, but Brittany’s submission simply had to be the one.
Mikayla and Brittany took Grandma Ellen to a field by Brittany’s house to do the shoot in June of 2017. The bride had a little surprise in store for her grandmother: instead of just taking the shoot in ordinary clothes, Brittany wanted her grandma to see her in her wedding dress.
She wanted her dear grandmother to see her as a happy blushing bride while she still had the strength to do so. Mikayla captures the entirety of the touching moment on her camera.
Mikayla felt honoured to be the one to capture such beautiful photographs of the two of them, that display just how strong a granddaughter’s bond with her grandmother can be.
Brittany’s Grandma Ellen, who is battling stage 4 cancer, was immensely touched by her granddaughter’s gesture.
Ellen told Brittany over the phone how she wanted to have a dance with the bride-to-be at her wedding. Brittany figured that the field was as good a place as the wedding to dance, and so they did. And it was beautiful. And Mikayla captured the whole thing.
